Here at Viperlabs we are always looking for ways to research capabilities that aid in the analysis, distribution, and assimilation of information and the formation of knowledgeable insight. New initiatives in Viper Labs, OGSystem’s home for agile methodology and immersive engineering engagement, will push forward next generation concept exploration to solve a diverse set of customer problems. In the race to exceed performance requirements, we seek out the best in order to deliver the best!

By looking for high-impact research, we screen the latest trends for product development and system design, and strive to get a handle on the up-coming and established players. They demonstrate to us (like through the fireside chats, come join us!) how via their unique industry leading offerings, they shape the future of technology and potentially change the way our customers execute their mission.

For instance, let’s take an example from the world of cloud computing. For decades the IT industry practice of hosting compute workloads has spanned a spectrum of using mainframes, personal computers, and commodity servers. If one wants to migrate workloads across compute platforms, then one needs a standard industry recognized way of doing so. One way is to install the software onto a virtual machine that runs atop physical hardware, and then transfer those VMs across datacenters or public/private cloud infrastructure providers. The problem with that approach is that for technical, security, and business reasons, options for doing so are very limited and slow to execute. However, the past two years has seen a surge of interest in an alternative, status-quo disrupting mechanism, by using operating system containers. Instead of riding atop existing operating systems, like running Windows atop of Linux, containers integrate a second OS that shares resources/files with an existing host OS. User activity is still segregated, but performance and compute density of at times an order of magnitude can be achieved. These containers, the most popular of which is Docker, can also be downloaded and run across differing compute service providers; be they legacy datacenters or cloud platforms-as-a-service like Amazon AWS, Google GCE (they launch 3,000 containers per second!), IBM, Rackspace and many, many others.

One reason why such an alternative to traditional application packaging has gained so much traction in the development and operations community (DevOps) is that it enables lean and agile developers to create and deploy software at a much faster pace. By empowering forward think devs with processes and Dev-Ops tools like Docker, we validate, incubate, and deliver next-gen embracing technology to provide near-term, and substantive impact across our stakeholder community...FASTER. Moving the ball forward on innovation throughout the company depends on Viper Lab’s success in understanding, modeling, and enabling the computing and online end user experiences of today… and into the future! Since it is increasingly difficult for the independent thinker or team to by themselves advance a field like applied visually-driven computer science, the involvement of multiple inter-connected teams is paramount for providing our customers with the novel approaches critical to disrupting the cycle of insufficient outcomes. It’s the inevitable result from the entrenched stove-top use of legacy processes and products seen in many sectors of Industry and Government.

By melding a unique group of DevOps engineers, analysts, and “visioneering” designers and leaders; we focus on providing new ways to interact, explore, and most importantly to understand. The key takeaway of this blog post and the many others to come, is that we seek to ideate, develop, and implement new technologies and solutions across the OGS product portfolio. Be it offensive security, clean and natural user interface infused contracts management, or geospatially enriched data exploration experiences… to name but a few projects. They have been forged through collaborative activities across the organization that used a gamut of interactive real-time chat, project tracking, documentation, and management systems used by geographically distributed talent across a broad selection of subject matter experts. These individuals truly embrace what it means to Own the Outcome!
